Safeguarding week is an important opportunity to highlight the collective responsibility we all have in protecting vulnerable individuals. This year, safeguarding week took place from 11-15th November 2024. At Vineyard Fostering, we emphasise that safeguarding is everybody’s business. The safety and well-being of a child should be a priority, whether you are a foster carer, a member of the community, or part of a professional network. By raising awareness and providing education at every opportunity, but particularly during Safeguarding Week, everyone can be equipped with the knowledge to identify risks and act decisively to safeguard children.
Fostering and Safeguarding: A Holistic Approach
For foster carers, safeguarding is at the heart of what they do. Foster children often come from backgrounds where they have experienced trauma or instability, and they require a safe and nurturing environment. At Vineyard Fostering, we work closely with our carers to develop a holistic approach to safeguarding. Children and young people depend on adults for their physical, emotional and social needs. Without proper protection, they can easily fall victim to abuse, neglect or exploitation. Abuse or neglect during childhood can lead to severe consequences such as mental health issues, poor academic performance, difficulty forming relationships and even cycles of abuse. Safeguarding can disrupt this curve.
Fostering Support at Vineyard
Foster Carers at Vineyard Fostering receive support around safeguarding. This includes training on Child Protection, Sexual Exploitation, Criminal Exploitation, Radicalisation among other areas of risk. Supervising Social Workers work with foster carers to conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential challenges and devise strategies to decrease or eliminate those risks. With our tailored support, foster carers can focus on creating a secure and safe space where children can thrive emotionally, physically and in all aspects of life.
